Just after the new floor had been laid, the new bed arrived. Thick solid pine and a new mattress. From these people in North London taurus beds
It makes the whole room feel like a bedroom now and I can also say that I’m sleeping better too. The mattress is an extra firm orthopaedic one. Much more comfortable than the previous one. There is also a headboard so that the pillows don’t drift during the night. Previously there had been a canvas director’s chair type affair. It sort of held you when you wanted to sit upright, but the gap underneath it allowed the pillows to fall through.
It’s a tiny bit higher than the previous one which means that there is more room for storage. But to keep it all tidy there is a large sliding drawer, plus a couple of under the bed storage boxes from Ikea.
The bedroom had acted as a sort of storeroom plus sleeping room for so long that it was hard to imagine it as anything else. But now it has been transformed. And it’s about to be transformed even further. It can still be used as a storage room. But if the stored items are not on view then it does not appear cluttered and so does not detract from a good night’s rest.
As the Feng Shui people say,”New life, new bed”. Or something like that.
