The Nap

Between me and my friends it’s called “The Nap”. In Spain it’s called the Siesta. Some call it the “Power Nap”. I don’t manage to have one every day, but when it’s possible I do. I get up fairly late, usually around 8.30am. Which is the middle of the afternoon for some people. And I go to bed fairly late, usually after 01.00. So I need a nap. If I have a busy day, then I don’t manage it, but I try not to be busy, so that I can have The Nap.
It’s best to follow the rule – Pig Out, Crash Out. So first I will have lunch which usually comprises of instant noodles. (I’m going to write something about that sometime and my fave modified instant noodle recipes.) Then I’ll put the my phone on silent and hope that something isn’t coming in the second post. They don’t seem to have that much these days. But I do order a lot of thing from ebay and if they don’t come via Royal Mail, then they’ll come by courier. And that could be during nap time.
It could be just a half hour or up to three hours. From 2.00pm until 5.00pm or 4.00pm to 6.30pm or whatever. But I do it like it’s the evening. If it’s cold then I’ll put on the electric blanket and the heat just puts me straight to sleep. Sometimes I read and that does the job.
It is important to sleep for the right length of time. Too little and it hardly makes any difference and too long can leave you very tired and groggy. The Nap is an art in itself. Just like cocktail hour or the the bath it becomes a necessary part of your routine. I wonder if I could ever work full time again.
