My first tubulars this year. The ERD was almost the full 622 mm that you get for 700c rims. It was 620 mm. The usual measurement given for these Mavic Piste rims is 617 mm. But my own measurement was a bit bigger. These were built on Miche Primato Pistard small flange track hubs using ACI stainless steel double-butted spokes. Both of the wheels were laced 3-cross and the spoke length was 298 mm.

No rim tape required, another first, as these were tubular rims. And what worried me at the start was the small amount of clearance between the nipple head and outside of rim. I’d say 5 mm at the most. So I was a bit anxious about getting the spoke length correct. A bit too long and the thread would have come out to top and then made it difficult to place the tyre without damage. Would have meant getting the file out. But there were no problems: I got the length just right.

The rims themselves were very responsive and pulled into true rather well.
