april 2008/12 Campy Record 2/3-cross Campy Strada rims

Campy Record hubs have a bit of a tight hole and that was certainly the case with the front hub. But the rear hub had slightly bigger holes at 2.4mm. There were also recesses for placing washers. This allowed the spoke head to sit very snugly. This was also the first time that I had used Campagnolo rims.

The specs. Campagnolo Record track hubs 36 hole laced 2-cross front and 3-cross rear on Campagnolo Lambda Strada rims. DT Swiss Champion spokes on the front and DT Swiss Competition double butted spokes on the rear. 277mm and 286mm respectively. Both used brass nipples.

Campagnolo make great hubs but these rims were not up to much really. They took tension well but the spoke holes were not well finished. So it took a fair bit of stressing to make sure that there would be no movement later on. There was also a bit of a misalignment at the join which again is a sign of a low quality rim. You can see this when you compare Mavic Open Pro to Open Sport.
