september 2008/26 System Ex hub on Mavic MA-2
No wheels in August apart from a few repairs but as September has started so have the enquiries. These were built on an old set of Mavic MA-2 rims on System Ex track hubs. The rims had a few rust spots round the eye-holes but apart from that hardly any wear at all. 36-hole which allowed for a crow’s foot pattern on the rear wheel. There are many ways to do this and I opted for the version where radial and 2-cross lengths are mixed together and the spoke heads are facing inwards at the hub. The front is radially laced with the spoke heads out.
The radial length was 276mm and I used DT Swiss Alpine heavy duty spokes which are 2.3mm thick. It gives the radially laced front wheel a real chunky look which I think is pretty cool. A drop of linseed oil was used as a thread locker. The rear has the same spokes for the radial lengths but 285mm DT Swiss Champion plain gauge spokes for the 2-cross.
