capote dvd

It’s rare that I see a film that holds my attention completely, when I am totally absorbed and think of nothing else and even forget that I’m watching a film. Even on dvd this film managed to do that. There are no bangs or explosions. No special effects or computer graphics. Not even a voice was raised throughout the entire film. But it was utterly captivating.

The film seems to move at a slow pace with lots of seemingly still images, but that does not detract from its intensity, it rather heightens and enhances it. The story is not a biopic as such but covers only the period in Truman Capote’s life when he is involved with the writing and researching of his now famous novel, "In Cold Blood". The depth of his involvement in the subject matter is uncanny and mysterious and shows the marks of a true genius or visionary.

The extra features of the dvd are not the typical, " We were like one big family" or " I learned so much from being a part of this project" or even " Once I read the script, I knew this was the one for me". The featurettes gave a portrayal of the depth and passion of all those involved in the making of the film itself. So even though I think I have missed out on the great scenic shots by watching them on the small screen, I have gained by being able to see all the extra features which are usually naff add–ons that were made for the sake of making them.

A must see movie in every sense. Make this the next movie you rent or buy.
