progress report may 2009
May seems to have come and gone without me even noticing it. I remember that there were two bank holidays and some nice weather but that was about it. Business as usual then I guess.
Riding a minimum of a 100 miles a week
Again I’ve been clocking up the miles and going well over the one hundred mark. It’s quite inspiring and I’m amazed that at 40 years of age I’m continuing to get fitter. The new saddle and gear ratio have made a big contribution to the comfort factor.
Meditation
Sometimes I wonder why this is even on the list. It should move onto the ‘Someday/Maybe’ list. The intention is definitely there but that is about all really.
My own yoga practice
My own practice is gradually gathering some momentum as I start to let go of my old ideas and memories about what a personal yoga practice is about. It’s not easy to let go of that but it has to be done in order for me to embrace the new one.
Keeping in touch with friends
Didn’t do much of this in May. And didn’t miss it either Perhaps because I did do it in April.
The wheel log
Seem to be getting behind again. Enquiries have started to come in again and I have even sent a few off in the post. Just need to get the pictures and descriptions up there. I mean here.
De-cluttering my life
Stuff is building up again. One day you look at your stuff and think you want to get rid of it all and then the next day you can’t imagine being without any of it because need it. But some things just sit there and never get used.
Relaxing & goalless activities
I have been so worried about money that it has been hard to do anything halfway relaxing. A bit of xbox and some TV but that is just mind numbing nonsense. I seem to be forgetting how to enjoy life and the simple pleasures. Oh dear, I think I’m getting dragged into that rat race.
Learning Ruby on Rails
Rails took a nose dive this month and I’ve done an about turn. I wondered why it was that I was having such a hard time getting down to studying this and it occurred to me that I jsut don’t like it. If I don’t like it then I certainly don’t want to get a job doing it even if I can earn a lot of money. I want something that pays well and is also fulfilling. Because this is not a temporary or short term thing. This is an investment.
So my latest thing is MySQL 5. Is it just that initial enthusiasm again? Who knows. But I really like it and I have enjoyed all the study that I have done so far and I want to get certified. There are walk-in test centres where you can pay on the day and take the exam. And that’s all there is to it. Let’s see if I’m still into it at the end of next month. So optimistic aren’t I.
