Shriracha Hot Chili Sauce

The first time I tried this was in San Francisco while staying with a friend. It was just the thing with a huge potato rosti topped with cheese. He told me that he got it from Chinatown. I went there to buy a chinese chopper before I left but regretably forgot all about the chili sauce. Doh!
My next encounter was at the same friend’s house but this time in Switzerland. I made sure that I had purchased a bottle before the end of my stay. It was from a chinese supermarket.
It wasn’t long until I had finished the bottle and thought about another trip to Geneve as I couldn’t find it anywhere in London. I obviously hadn’t looked in Soho. And there it was. My scrambled eggs took on a new lease of life and this became part of my rotation alongside Dalgety’s Extra Extra hot pepper sauce.

Once I had stopped becoming a regular punter of the Prince Charles Cinema on a Tuesday afternoon I didn’t find myself in Soho very much. So my next purchase was from Tesco of all places. Which means what? Which means that chili is becoming mainstream. I don’t mean mild or with a hint of chili but proper blow yer head off and incinerate yer throat kind of stuff. Let’s hope that the public take it up and Tesco keep selling it. But a trip to Soho is no bad thing.
