progress report november 2009
I’m in Brighton visiting friends and taking a short break from my usual day to day. If last month’s break was about solitude and reflection this time it’s all about connecting with friends. I could be pursuing all of my goals and making good progress but without regular contact with friends it can seem flat and disconnected. I’m starting to make some good connections in London but it does require a lot more organisation to make it happen. Two of my friends are also leaving the country for a while which makes me very sad. I will miss them but I am also happy that they are following their paths.
Since returning from my trip to Sweden at the beginning of the month life has been quite leisurely and laid back. Although there have been many things on my to do list, I seem to have been just hanging out a lot more and taking it easy. It’s great that I’ve been able to do that but I do feel a little bit behind. I suppose it has been a chance to absorb and assimilate my time in Sweden perhaps on an unconscious level. But I could just be trying to come up with good excuses.
Riding a minimum of a 100 miles a week
There was another millennium during this month and I passed 19,000 miles. It always gives me a great feeling and that is because I have been doing my hundred a week. Towards the end of the month I have been thinking about my health so have been changing my strategy with my regular commutes to turn them into rides. On the way to somewhere I take it easy and on the way back I push myself harder.
Meditation
The usual ten minutes but I’m happy with that. Would be nice though to have a longer session at some point in the week. Will think about that for next year or even during the christmas break.
My own yoga practice
I’ve been doing my freeform intuitive sessions but have been finding that if I leave it till the evening it is less likely to happen. An interesting observation but one that holds true within my current lifestyle.
Keeping in touch with friends
Well, here I am in Brighton, making the effort to catch up and connect. Sometimes I begrudge the fact that I have to make all the effort. But when we meet and feel that we can pick up almost from where we had left off I realise that the extra effort was worthwhile and I don’t mind handling the lion’s share of the organising.
The wheel log
I did add a few from my backlog but still at least a dozen behind and because of that I seem to be letting go of more recent ones without taking photos or adding them to the list. Next year I’m planning to quit anyway so perhaps I’ll go and do that now. Just add the last few and then only document the special ones.
De-cluttering my life
I’ve started building up stock for my wheel shop and it seems OK so far but will need to think about another storage solution. My bedroom is not a lock up garage or warehouse. I’ve also just bought another laptop, so more stuff is coming in but not much is going out. Oh dear. The longer you stay somewhere the harder it gets.
Relaxing & goalless activities
As I said earlier, November has felt fairly laid back. I’ve been taking naps, messing around with my new laptop, watching movies and generally hanging out. Think I’ve gone a bit overboard though but have allowed it because it has been hard to allow it to happen earlier this year.
IT Training
I still haven’t booked on this course and I had better do it soon or I could risk not getting a place. But unless I do it I will never know if it’s something that I really want.
