Got my Ubuntu 9.10 sorted
Last night I was fiddling around trying to figure out the sound settings in Linux Ubuntu 9.10 and wondering why I can’t control the volume of Flash content such as YouTube etc with the normal volume control. Sometimes the sound was working and then sometimes not. So I was following some guides on various blogs and forums. Copying and pasting code into the terminal and keeping my fingers crossed. This was something that I did when I first installed Ubuntu using the wubi installer to create a dual-boot system alongside Windows Vista. But since that kernel bug came on the scene I’ve been wary of updating anything. Well, it happened again.
What happened before was that I after the windows boot loader thing which gives you the choice of Vista or Ubuntu it normally takes you to GRUB with a list of boot options. But it didn’t. It was GRUB with a sort of shell. When this happened before I really didn’t know what to do. I didn’t have many files in my Ubuntu install so I just reinstalled and everything was fine. But I’ve been most cautious about upgrading anything in case it happened again. So how did I fix it this time? Well, as I have other computers I used one of those to do some Googling and found others with the same issues. I followed the instructions and I was back in! No reinstall required. But more than that I sorted out my sound issues too. Now I can control the Flash volume with the normal volume control and I also have a mixer so that Rhythmbox works too. Ubuntu and I imagine other flavours of Linux too require a bit of configuration to get your system just how you want it. But it’s very satisfying once you have it sorted.
The other thing that went well today was a meal at Yo Sushi. Nothing spectacular but I managed to get around to taking my thousand mile meal before the next one comes around.
There’s one more today. On evony I just cleared 1.5 million prestige. I’m hitting level 8 npc’s with warriors only and getting around 8k prestige each time. I keep trying to quit evony but I love it too much.
