arup’s blog updates march 2007
I’ve been working away on my wife’s baking blog called madaboutbaking.com and of course learning many new and exciting things as I go. She asks for things that I haven’t done before and then I have to go and figure it out. But the wordpress documentation is very clear and fairly exhaustive and I soon have the answer. But then she has a new feature or plugin on her site and I want it too. So mine gets updated. I’ll be writing more about the baking site in another post, but what are the new features on mine?
Subscriptions
It’s now much easier to subscribe to arup’s blog either with a reader or via email. I have even added a little subscribe section at the top of the side bar. These are both through Feedburner. Perhaps I can badger some of my friends into signing up to read my blather.
Cute calendar icon
I found this cute calendar icon which I have put next to my date. It appears in the metadata and under the post title. I have tried making icons myself, but they usually look naff.
A great one click tool to get all your social bookmarks done in one go. Also includes the e-mail to a friend thing. Not that I’m looking for a great public presence, but would be nice to have the odd comment now and again rather than just spam.
Archives drop-down list
My blog hasn’t been going that long, but I did notice that on other people’s blogs the archives list was very long indeed. It’s not something that I use when I look on other peoples sites so I thought I’d make it into a dropdown menu instead.
del.icio.us bookmarks
What a great idea. I have bookmarks on various browsers but I hardly ever use them. I spend time organising them but then when I need something I look in Google. And usually I end up searching for the same things over and over again. Wasn’t that the point of having bookmarks? Well, yes. But for some reason, even if I bookmark the page, I seem to look for it again. Perhaps it’s just the thrill of finding something new.
And of the four main browsers that I use, namely, Firefox, Safari, Camino and Internet Explorer which has the most definitive set of bookmarks? And which ones are the most up to date? Why not stick to one browser you say? Well, I like the look and feel of one for a while and then a few months later use another. Just for a change. So this makes it all the easier if they are online.
And of course there is sharing. So you can now click on the del.icio.us link in the sidebar and see my bookmarks. Perhaps I’ll start using them now.
