got myself a new ibook

I’ve been wanting one since last summer and I have been thinking of every excuse I can to justify the purchase. I already have a mac G4 and a pc laptop, so why do I need a third computer? Well can’t I just have it because I want it? Of course you can, I have no problem with that. So why don’t you just get one then? I guess I don’t know. It’s just one of those things. Being allowed to have one or deserving it or meaning to use it. Something like that. I’m grown up and it’s my money and I can spend it how I like. Anyway, you get to that moment when you are about to cross a busy road when you just go for it. You know that feeling?

So what was the excuse that tipped me over the edge? Being able to work away from home. I have most of my files and software on my G4 so I would naturally want to work from a mac laptop. The pc laptop is really just for testing in ie/win and making sure that my conditional comments work properly. Someday people will stop using internet explorer, but betamax never caught on did it?

When would I use it?

So I have these long gaps between yoga classes where I usually go to the cinema, if the timings happen to be good with my unlimited card at a cineworld cinema. But sometimes I go to internet cafes. But then I wish I could access my own files and software and perhaps to a bit of web work. So a laptop was naturally the answer. And of the clubs where I work, David Lloyd in Kensington now has wifi in the clubroom, and instructors can use it too!

So I can teach my class, have a sauna or whatever and then get my laptop out and get to work. Cool. I don’t have to go to Starbucks and pay for the T-mobile hotspot thing. Although one of their big hot chocolates are nice. But I can get refreshments in the clubroom.

Compared to the big 20″ screen that I have on the desk this is tiny at 12″, but oh so cute. And I can do it all. I’ve even managed to network the two together so when I’m done, I can ftp to the other mac and update all the changes that I’ve made. Saves a lot of time.

So it’s fun, it’s an asset to my business, it keeps me going when I have time to kill and it’s cute. What more could you ask. A fantastic purchase and an achivement. Next time I won’t try and think of an excuse, I’ll just get it.
