I used to be a bit more involved with the songfight community till about a year ago when I’ve got into the whole web design thing and music hasn’t had much of a look in. So how does it work?
There is a song title offered at the start of the week. The start of the week keeps changing though. At the time of writing it is “King Me”. Then you have until the due date, which could be a week or perhaps 10 days to come up with a song. You have to star in it, write the theme tune, sing the theme tune and then mp3 it up onto the site. It has to be something inspired by the given title and doesn’t necessarily have to contain the title itself.
Then what happens? Voting begins. Once all the entries are in everyone listens to all the various offerings that people have submitted and vote for the one they like best. Reviews are also posted on the forum and it’s pretty much obligatory that if you enter a song for a particular fight that you should write reviews. That happens in the discussion boards. Along with various other topics, songwriting related and otherwise.
The thing about it is that it’s fun. It’s not about making it in the music industry or commercial success. But people are serious about their music making and some of course do want to make it and use the community to get feedback on their material and see if they have a hope in hell of making it in the cut throat world of the music biz.
